This soprano ukulele is a collaboration between FCCPS parent Keith von Schriltz,
Meridian teacher Kenny George and Meridian student Claire Weatherly. The beautiful
flamed walnut used to make the body and the headplate is from a tree cut down on
Berry Street in Falls Church City several years ago. Kenny processed some of the
walnut into quartersawn boards suitable for instrument making and passed it on to his
neighbor Keith who built the instrument from scratch. Claire designed the headstock
logo using CNC in Mr. George’s IB Design class. She then burned in the design and cut
it out using a laser cutter and passed the logo on to Keith who added it to the headstock
of the instrument. The end result is a one of a kind handmade ukulele dripping with
Falls Church City mojo!
