This beautiful, one of a kind soprano ukulele is the result of a collaboration between local luthier Keith von Schriltz and Kenny George’s Meridian High School IB Design class. The back, sides, headplate, and bridgeplate are made of walnut from a tree cut down in Falls Church City several years ago. The top is 100 year old Alaskan Yellow Cedar salvaged from a barn in Washington state. The binding, fretboard and bridge are rosewood. The neck is hand carved out of mahogany. All told about 50 hours went into the construction and finishing of the ukulele.

The piece de resistance is the amazing headstock inlay – the façade of famed Little City landmark The State Theater! Meridian junior Claire Weatherly designed the inlay in CAD software and used a laser to cut the design into a piece of curly maple. She then cut a precise pocket in the walnut headplate to house the inlay. You may never make the stage of The State Theater, but you can sit in your living room and pretend while you strum this wonderful uke.
